Maps are great way of finding out where things are in relation to each other and for suggesting routes that might be more pleasant (for walking or cycling) than following the main roads.
With Google Earth and Google Maps it’s now easy to view things on-line and even create you own personalised map with routes to places you choose.
Since December 2006 the satellite images of Edinburgh have been so good that it’s possible to see paths and cut-throughs that are not marked on most maps.
